Background and objective 

Santa Casa da Misericórdia de Macau (The Macau Holy House of Mercy) has proudly unveiled its first private day care centre and the second of its kind - Crèche Lara Reis - on 15^th of January, 2022. This crèche is located near the Sai Van Lake, on the historic Villa "Sol Poente", donated by professor Fernando Lara Reis to Santa Casa da Misericórdia de Macau.

Our aim is to create a homely, safe environment, where children can be happy, while feeling safe and loved. We fully believe that play is the medium through which, children learn, explore and experience their surroundings.

This Crèche is available for children between 18 months and 3 years old. English will be used as medium of instruction but Chinese (Cantonese/Mandarin) and Portuguese are also used to enhance parent-teacher communication and to attend to children's emotional needs. 

The Crèche is open from Monday to Friday, between 8:30 and 18:30, and on Saturday between 8:30 to 13:00.

Goals 

Our target is to offer a space where:

• children are confident to be themselves, to bond with others and to learn;
• diversity of ways of self-expression (language, art, movement) is respected and valued;
• mixed cultures of local characteristics are integrated for a child's character development;
• natural resources are utilized as tools for the understanding of oneself and the world;
• together, children, family and school, come to being a learning community.
